The History
The Pilates method of body conditioning a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed over ninety years ago by Joseph H.Pilates.

Osteopaths, physiotherapists, chiropractors and general practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise today. It is perfect for people who suffer from back / neck pain, or any other alignment problem because it strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance. It unites body and mind, and aids in creating a more stream lined shape.

The classes
Pilates mat work classes for all levels are held at the Modern Art Gallery Gym Balford Road on Monday nights and on Saturdays at the Hermitage Club House Braid Hills Road. Classes cater for up to 12 people and run in ten week blocks. In addition One to Ones in mat work are offered at Pilates Room Edinburgh on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. These sessions cater for people who require more assistance and therefore offer more personal attention than a general mat work class.

Initial assessments for One to One clients costs £40 and lasts one and a half hours Thereafter each session is £30. and lasts one hour.
